He is currently an Associate Professor I at the same institution, working in the Plant Genetic Breeding Laboratory. He was awarded the Young Scientist of the State of Rio de Janeiro fellowship from 2007 to 2012 and has been recognized as a Scientist of the State of Rio de Janeiro since 2012. He is involved in eight research projects, coordinating six of them. His work is focused on Agronomy, with emphasis on perennial plant breeding, quantitative genetics, experimental statistics, and DNA markers. At the graduate level, he teaches courses focused on experimental techniques, mixed modeling, QTL mapping, and genomic selection. He coordinates research projects in several areas, including intrapopulation breeding of sour passion fruit through recurrent selection; breeding for resistance to Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV) using segregating populations; guava breeding for agronomic traits through studies in segregating populations and genomic selection approaches; guava breeding for resistance to Meloidogyne enterolobii, focusing on the development of Psidium segregating populations aimed at controlling guava decline; and grapevine breeding and management in partnership with the University of California, with emphasis on segregating populations resistant to downy mildew and powdery mildew. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis, in the Department of Viticulture and Enology, working with Andrew Walker. His research focused on QTL mapping and marker-assisted selection for resistance to powdery mildew, downy mildew, and Pierce\u2019s disease, as well as agronomic traits in table grapes and wine production. He served as a board member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Fruticultura from 2019 to 2021 and was President of the Rio de Janeiro regional branch of the Sociedade Brasileira de Melhoramento de Plantas from 2017 to 2019. He is one of the founders of the\u00a0<em>Functional Plant Breeding Journal<\/em>, where he currently serves as Executive Editor, and is also an Associate Editor of\u00a0<em>Acta Amaz\u00f4nica<\/em>. In addition, he is the founder and CEO of the company Rio Norte Sementes Ltda. He served as Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Genetics and Plant Breeding at UENF from 2021 to 2023.
