Materials Science and Technology
This research involves the synthesis and/or characterization of diverse materials for sustainable technological applications, quality control and composition. The main topics investigated are:
1) food (pasty, oleaginous and fruits);
2) catalysts (for petroleum refining, biometrics and remediation);
3) ceramics (archaeological and civil construction);
4) fertilizers (urea-zeolite compounds, biocarbons and compost products);
5) thin films;
6) magnetic materials (ceramics, thin films, nanoparticles, magnetocalorics and metal alloys);
7) materials for photonics (special optical glasses, luminescent matches and nanoparticulate);
8) oil reservoir rocks.
9) Metabolomics
The laboratories have a diversified infrastructure for research, with several techniques of synthesis and characterization of the investigated materials, as listed below.
1. Thermal analysis (DTA / DSC / TG);
2. X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption;
3. Spectrophotometry (ultraviolet, visible and infrared);
4. Luminescence spectroscopy;
5. Photothermal (photoacoustic, thermal lens and photopiroelectric);
6. Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR);
7. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR);
8. Synthesis by melting (high temperature and / or controlled atmosphere furnaces);
9. Synthesis by solid state reaction, sol-gel and combustion.
