Claudia Pombo Sudré

Holds a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), a specialization in Plant Pathology from UFRRJ, a Master’s degree in Plant Production, and a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding (2009), both from the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro Darcy Ribeiro (UENF).Since 1993, she has worked as a research support technician at UENF, and since 2003 specifically at the Plant Genetic Breeding Laboratory (LMGV/UENF). She has experience in the field of Agronomy, with an emphasis on plant genetic resources, breeding of vegetable crops for disease resistance, and plant–pathogen interactions. She assists in the maintenance of the germplasm bank of LMGV/UENF.

She is a member of the extension project “Shared Germplasm Management: A Pioneering Proposal between UENF and Family Farmers in the State of Rio de Janeiro” and of the project “Capsicum–Colletotrichum Interaction and Innovation in Agriculture: Development of Resistant Cultivars.” She participated in the development of nine pepper cultivars registered with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA). She is a recipient of the CNPq Technological Development and Innovative Extension Productivity Fellowship (Level 2).

Marcela Santana Bastos Boechat

Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro Darcy Ribeiro (UENF), as well as a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Biosciences and Biotechnology from the same institution. She has experience in the fields of Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Genomics. She serves as the technical coordinator of the Applied Genetics Sector at the Plant Genetic Breeding Laboratory (LMGV) of the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro Darcy Ribeiro, where she conducts research focused on the application of molecular markers (SNP, SSR, SNAP, ISSR) in plant breeding programs.

She is also the co-founder of the company Agro Innova Genetic Analyses (MF Papaya), which provides innovative solutions for agribusiness through genetic analyses and is a pioneer in Brazil in the molecular sex determination of papaya. In 2024, she was a finalist in the FINEP Women Innovators Award, which recognizes women-led companies with significant social impact, achieving 3rd place as the most innovative company in the Southeast region of Brazil.
