Geotechnical Engineering
Geotechnical engineering conducts studies aimed at basic and advanced geotechnical problems, which are strongly related to the regional context, following the premise established in the institutional project overseen by Prof. Darcy Ribeiro. In this respect, research has been conducted on issues related to the sectors of mining, oil and gas (production and transport), ornamental stones and geogrid and geomembrane characterization. Geotechnical engineering has two lines of research, including four projects that interface with the area of structures, since the problems raised are intricately linked to the two areas, in both numerical and experimental modeling.
Lines of research in geotechnical engineering:
1. Geological-geotechnical investigation
Project 5 – Soil-structure interaction and geotextile and geomembrane characterization (Coordinator: Prof. Paulo Maia)
Project 6 – Experimental characterization and numerical modeling of construction materials in geotechnical engineering (Coordinator: Prof. Gustavo Xavier)
2. Physical and numerical modeling of geotechnical problems linked to the oil and gas area
Project 7 – Submarine slope stability and deepwater platform anchoring (Coordinator: Prof. Sérgio Tibana)
Project 8 – Geothermal Piles (Coordinator: Prof. Fernando Saboya Jr.)
