Metropolises and the Right to the City: Research Program of the Observatory Network 2017-2022
Metropolis Observatory holds seminar at UENF
Urban issues that affect the country and the region will be debated throughout the day on 10/15/19 at the Oscar Niemeyer Convention Center, UENF, on occasion of the Northern Fluminense Seminar of the Metropolis Observatory. Registration is free on the website of the Graduate Program in Political Sociology (PPGSP) at UENF.
A network made up of about 100 researchers from 60 institutions, currently under the coordination of Professor Sergio de Azevedo, of UENF, the Observatório das Metrópoles has been working for 20 years on metropolitan challenges posed to the country’s development. The group is part of the National Institutes of Science and Technology (INCT) Program of CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), which, according to its own definition, aggregates “the best research groups on the frontier of scientific and strategic areas” for the development of the country. In addition to increased coordination among scientists, the Observatory promotes activities aimed at government actors and civil society in the field of public policies in this area. This is the case with the Norte Fluminense Seminar.
After commencement, at 9:30 AM, the seminar will have three round-tables discussing the topics “Segregation and inequality in work, education, and housing” (10 AM), “Metropolitan governance and urban regimes” (2 PM), and “The mega region” (4 PM). Under the coordination of researchers working in Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), the discussions will bring together specialists from the Institute for Urban Research and Planning (IPPUR / UFRJ), the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Rio de Janeiro, Uerj, and UFF.
