
Dr. Helaine holds a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (2004), an M.Sc. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (2007), and a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the same institution (2010). She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship abroad (PDE), conducting research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in partnership with UENF. She is currently an Associate Professor at UENF, a recipient of the Young Scientist of Our State fellowship from the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ – JCNE), a Level 2 Research Productivity Fellow of the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq – PQ2), and a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Graduate Program in Genetics and Plant Breeding at UENF. She is a co-author of twelve papaya cultivars developed by the UENF papaya breeding program. She has experience in Genetics, with an emphasis on Molecular Genetics, and her research primarily focuses on plant breeding, DNA markers, genetic mapping, molecular breeding, and genomic analysis, particularly in Carica papaya L. and Cocos nucifera L.
