We at ASSAII are very happy with the publication of this special volume of the periodical “Conhecendo a Ciência”, which brings the product of the I English Writing Workshop given to undergraduate students at UENF. It is important that our University provides its students with the opportunity to improve their language skills. In this context, the I English Writing Workshop was a positive and joint experience between ASSAII and ProPPG to stimulate and provide space for communication and diffusion of scientific knowledge in English. Words from PIBi-UENF
The periodical “Conhecendo a Ciência”, as a vehicle for disseminating the work of Scientific and Technological Initiation scholarship recipients and volunteers at UENF, has interviewed many students to talk about their work and their trajectory at the University. In each issue, the periodical gives voice to the students who tell us their story, share results, and show that UENF undergraduates are agents in the country’s scientific development. The satisfaction of being part of research groups at one of Brazil’s best public universities is stamped in the words of the students portrayed in the periodical’s issues. Thus, we want to stimulate other students and future entrants to the public university to be part of this instigating universe. Leia aqui
Understanding Science
Science is a collaborative quest. Even though research, reading, and critical reflection are lonesome tasks, several authors’ ideas are flowing, competing, auxiliating each other, strengthening arguments, or disproving other ideas. Ideas move actions, thus every transformation requires first and foremost a change in ideas and how knowledge is produced. Science enables sustainability, community-building, effective governing, and critical thinking. It provides understanding of hidden sociopolitical processes, comprehending the wonders of organic biochemical processes, and the magical physical metamorphosis of Earth and Universe elements. From the atoms to outer space, Science is the way through which we understand our own Nature, our environment, and what lies beyond the seeming. More importantly, Science is one for everyone. Undergraduate in Biological Sciences at UENF. Currently, I work with the evaluation of the cytotoxicity of a cupric compound on neoplastic lineages in the Laboratory of Biology of Recognition (LBR), under the co-supervision of Dr. Marina Barreto Silva and the advisorship of Dr. Milton Masahiko Kanashiro.

I joined the course of Veterinary Medicine at UENF in 2019 and I am currently carrying out Scientific Initiation in the area of Clinical Biochemistry of Birds by the Clinical Pathology sector of the Laboratory of Animal Clinic and Surgery (LCCA), more specifically with free-living raptors supported by the Center for Studies and Rese- arch in Wild Animals of UENF (NEPAS). A Revista “Conhecendo a Ciência”, produzida pela Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação da UENF, tem como objetivo divulgar os trabalhos científicos desenvolvidos por bolsistas e voluntários que participam do Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação Científica e Tecnológica da Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (PIBi/UENF). Nosso público alvo está além da comunidade acadêmica, pois pretende atingir toda a comunidade em geral e especialmente o público jovem, a fim de despertar o interesse para a Ciência e a Tecnologia através da aproximação Sociedade-Universidade.
A revista iniciou em 2014, com financiamento do CNPq, sob a coordenação da Profa. Adriana Jardim de Almeida. A partir de 2016, a Profa. Maria Cristina Gaglianone passou a coordenar a Revista, que atualmente conta com apoio da Editora da UENF (EdUENF) e da Pró-Reitoria de Extensão e Assuntos Comunitários, através das bolsas concedidas a participantes da equipe.
