In July 2011, the UENF Internationalization Commission was created. After the first actions of this commission, an advisor and a coordinator were appointed to conduct the work related to the topic. ASSAII has been provided for in the general legislation of UENF, since the creation of the university, as an auxiliary department of the Rectory. According to the UENF Constitution, Article 3, paragraph 2, establishes the objectives and functions of the institution that the University must “cooperate with universities and other Brazilian, foreign and international scientific and cultural institutions”. In its Article 6, paragraph 2, it establishes the Office for International and Institutional Affairs as an auxiliary organ of the Rectory. Still in the UENF Constitution, in article 29, it is determined that “The Auxiliary organs of the Rectory, Supplements and Special Services are defined in the respective internal regulations, and the Rectory is responsible for appointing its officers, in compliance with the requirements required for the exercise of the function ”.
In the Internal Regulations of UENF, in article 92, it is defined that “auxiliary bodies are units linked to the Office of the Rector and Vice-Rector with functions of institutional political articulation, public management assistance, internal control and administration of complex units” . It is also defined in the Internal Regulation of UENF, in article 99, that “The Advisory Office for International and Institutional Affairs is an auxiliary organ of the Rectory with the purpose of promoting the interaction of the University with international higher education bodies and institutions, supporting and implementing agreements of technical, scientific and cultural cooperation, enabling the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, professors and technicians from UENF and welcoming students who are beneficiaries of these agreements ”. Finally, in the single paragraph, it is reinforced that “The Advisory on International and Institutional Affairs will be directed by the Adviser on International and Institutional Affairs, appointed by the Rector”.
